POLISH CARD (Karta Polaka)
Polish Card (Karta Polaka) is a document confirming belonging to the Polish nation, which can be obtained by citizens of the former CIS and Baltic countries, and from 2019 and the whole world, and it is issued free of charge. With the Card of the Pole a foreigner can immigrate, live and work in Poland as a resident, without having Polish citizenship. Thanks to the innovations in the Law on the Pole Card, from 2017, based on the Pole Card it is possible to obtain permanent residence status (Karta Stałego Pobytu), which, in turn, gives the right to apply for Polish citizenship after one year under a simplified procedure. Karta Polaka is issued for a period of 10 years and can be easily extended at the end of the term.
Polish Card entitles you to:
- A free national visa (without providing additional permits, invitations, work contracts, etc.), entitling you to cross the Polish border multiple times
- recourse to a consul, within his competence, for assistance in case of a threat to life or safety
- official employment in Poland without any additional permits
- getting Permanent Residence Permit (Karta Stałego Pobytu) free of charge
- Polish citizenship, after permanently residing on the territory of the Republic of Poland for at least 1 year, or permanent residence permit (Karta Stałego Pobytu)
- free education at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels under the same conditions as Polish citizens, while applying for scholarships and financial aid for studies intended for foreigners studying and receiving higher education in Poland
- registration and conduct of business activities on an equal footing with Polish citizens
- free emergency medical care
- receipt of cash allowances for repatriates
- privileged use of rail transport services in the territory of Poland (37% discount)
- free visits to national museums of Poland.
- getting discounts on mortgage loans, refresher courses and studying Polish language in Poland.
The Polish Card cannot be issued to a person who has Polish citizenship or residence permit on the territory of the Republic of Poland or who has the status of a stateless person.
The amount of cash benefit for repatriates:
The allowance can be granted for a period not exceeding 9 months. During the first 3 months, the foreigner to whom the benefit has been assigned will receive 50% of the minimum wage set for the year of application for himself and his spouse, and 50% of this amount for each minor child. Only those family members (spouse and minor children) who live with the foreigner on Polish territory are taken into account. In the period from 4 to 9 months, 60% of the above amounts will be paid.
Conditions for obtaining the Polish Card:
- Mandatory knowledge of the Polish language at the A2 level.
- Mandatory knowledge of the history, culture, geography and traditions of the Republic of Poland.
The process of obtaining the Polish Card:
The consul or voivode conducts an interview with the applicant in Polish about Poland, its history, culture, as well as customs and traditions. The interview lasts approximately 15-20 minutes. If you successfully pass the interview, the Consul or Voivode will submit to the applicant for signature a declaration of belonging to the Polish nation and a statement that he/she or his/her relatives in the ascending line were not repatriated and were not repatriated from the territory of the Republic of Poland.
